Collective purchase of air-to-water heat pumps gets underway in Italy

To increase consumers’ awareness of the benefits of heat pumps, Altroconsumo has organised a collective purchase campaign of air-to-water heat pumps. As part of the campaign, consumers can participate in educational workshops on heat pumps - “a unique opportunity to better understand this sustainable technology, which is more complex than a traditional gas boiler,” explained Stefano Casiraghi, energy expert at Altroconsumo.

In addition, participants will gain access to an exclusive offer for the purchase and installation of a heat pump. “The goal of the collective purchase is to stand by consumers, providing them with a concrete tool to install a heat pump in their homes, within a high-value framework for all participants: high-quality products tested by us, a competitive offer negotiated by Altroconsumo, and verified contractual conditions”, said the energy expert.

In recent years, the heat pump market in Italy has experienced significant growth, with 520,000 new installations in 2022 – a 36% increase compared to the previous year. However, in 2023, demand dropped by 36% in the first six months, mainly due to reduced government incentives. The future of the heat pump market will depend on the evolution of public subsidies, the cost ratio between electricity and gas, and potential restrictions on gas boiler usage.

What are the consumer’s experiences with heat pumps in Italy? A 2024 study, conducted by Italian consumer organisation and CLEAR-HP partner Altroconsumo, found that 79% of those who already have a heat pump are satisfied with their heating system. However, many Italians remain sceptical. Among 1,800 surveyed consumers, 60% stated that they do not plan to install a heat pump in the coming years, mainly due to perceived high costs and a lack of knowledge about the product.

Interested consumers based in Italy are invited to sign up for the collective purchase campaign here.
