Thanks to new EU roaming rules entering into force on 1 July, consumers should experience a better quality of service from telecom operators when they travel to another EU country. Until now, it was common for telecom companies to place consumers on a lower speed network when they are roaming than the network speed they get at home.1 From 1 July, that will no longer be possible with the new EU rules, unless it is technically impossible for the operator to provide the same quality of service.

Today, the European Commission and the national consumer authorities (the ‘CPC Network’) announced the end of their dialogue with TikTok, which had been running for more than a year, and the closure of their investigation into the social media platform. Despite some welcome improvements to TikTok’s policies, some worrying issues remain open or unresolved.

There are pluses and minuses for consumers in today’s European Parliament internal market committee vote on reforming the main EU product safety law.

EU Member States have just adopted their position on updated rules for consumer credit. This follows a strong European Commission proposal to modernise the bloc’s outdated Consumer Credit Directive, which covers all types of credit, including peer-to-peer lending and deferred debit cards.
