BEUC, The European Consumer Organisation is currently looking for a Brussels-based Policy Officer, a senior role to assist the Head of Food, Health and Chemicals Safety Team.

The tasks of the position will include: 

This role is an exciting opportunity to work on Food policy while potentially growing in the organisation. 
You will report directly to the Head of Food, Health and Chemicals Safety Team.

You will be in charge of:

  • creating and developing strategic relationships with external stakeholders such as experts, academics and partner organisation,
  • leading coalition work on food topics, 
  • facilitating discussion spaces both internally with staff and externally with our members,
  • coordinating with members and researchers on the development of policy proposals and research needs,
  • coordinating with the communications team on public facing angle of campaigns including on social media and in the press,
  • meeting with policymakers with the aim of getting them to support our policy proposals, 
  • representing BEUC at conferences and other external events, and meetings,
  • guiding junior staff in producing policy briefings and contributing to ensure that all deliverables assigned to the advocacy programme meet their deadlines,
  • managing funded projects through, among others, overseeing budgets, handling the reporting and maintaining good relationships with funders,
  • supporting the Director of Advocacy in the development of advocacy campaigns in line with the advocacy strategy and broader organizational strategy.

The main qualifications we are looking for are:

  • A relevant university degree (in the fields of food science, European food law, public health/nutrition, food systems or agriculture),
  • Relevant experience of 5+ years in a similar environment (NGO, EU institution, EU trade association, law firm).
  • An excellent and proven understanding of food- and food systems-related issues,
  • Knowledge of EU law-making process is a must,
  • The ability to write and communicate fluently in English. Knowledge of other EU languages is an asset,
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills,
  • A relationship builder able to process information quickly to develop knowledge, including new or unfamiliar areas of work,
  • A highly organised, structured, strategic and independent professional, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously,

  • Salary range between 4.476€ and 4.960€ gross, depending on experience.
