EU-Singapore digital trade agreement: Key points for consumers
Published on 18.02.2025
About this publication
The EU-Singapore Digital Trade Agreement is the first EU trade deal focused solely on digital trade. While it aims to strengthen online consumer protections, some provisions could put fundamental rights at risk.
The deal risks weakening safeguards on personal data protection and could limit the EU’s ability to enforce the AI Act, making it harder to ensure AI systems are safe and transparent. It also sets a worrying precedent for future digital trade negotiations.
The EU must ensure that trade agreements do not come at the expense of consumer rights and regulatory oversight.
