Meta is currently rolling out changes to its service in the EU which require Facebook and Instagram users to either consent to the processing of their data for advertising purposes by the company or pay in order not to be shown advertisements.

Today, BEUC and member organisations from 13 countries have reported to EU authorities misleading commercial claims about the recyclability of their products by major drinking water bottle traders, such as Coca-Cola, Danone and Nestlé Waters/Nestlé. According to our analysis, such claims do not comply with the EU rules on unfair commercial practices. Today, the European Commission published a proposal to modernise the rules on consumer Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Consumer ADR gives consumers and traders the possibility to solve their disputes out-of-court in a process which should be simple, fast, and affordable.

A landmark piece of legislation - the EU’s Representative Actions Directive - allowing consumers to go to court as a group when they have suffered the same harm will officially start to apply across the EU as of Sunday 25 June. However, against their obligations, a significant number of Member States have still not implemented it – it’s time for these countries to pick up the pace.
