EU Commission work plan scraps key consumer-relevant files
About this publication
The EU Commission just published its work programme for 2025. BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, calls on the Commission to ensure consumers are well protected and laments the removal of key legislation on AI liability, e-privacy and rail passenger rights.
BEUC Director General Agustín Reyna commented:
“When consumers use AI, they need to be sure someone will be held accountable when something goes wrong. When consumers travel, they need to be sure their rights will be upheld. Now that important legislation to tackle these issues are off the table, how will the Commission ensure action is taken?
“The EU Commission must not listen to industry interests only. It must make consumer protection a priority, so Europeans feel confident. They are the ones making the economy run after all. It is certainly not the time to question the strong consumer protection rules Europeans benefit from.”
