Bulgarian air-to-air heat pump campaign gets underway

Air-to-air heat pumps have become one of the most popular and cheapest methods of heating homes in Bulgaria. For this reason, the Bulgarian National Association of Active Consumers (BNAAC) has kicked off a collective purchase campaign of them through the CLEAR-X project.

The products in the campaign come at a discounted price and include installation, as well as having been lab-tested to ensure energy efficiency. To encourage consumer confidence in the campaign and in installing renewable energy devices, BNAAC will also act as a go-between for the consumer and the retailer to ensure consumers’ rights are fulfilled.

The campaign, which began on 20 March, is Bulgaria’s first campaign in the CLEAR-X project, with similar products also available under CLEAR-X in Slovenia and North Macedonia. While many consumers refer to this product as air conditioners, it is important to know that they can be used for heating in winter and cooling in summer.

BNAAC is also providing information to consumers about the importance of proper use and good maintenance of heat pumps, to ensure they have a longer life.

Despite several changes of government in Bulgaria, the EU Member State has climate targets to be met, and Bogomil Nikolov of BNAAC hopes the campaign can play a role in reaching these targets. “Consumers are interested in switching to renewable energy provided it is financially beneficial, and not too complex”, he commented.
