OECD and EU raise awareness about the risk of window covering cords for young children
BEUC NEWS - 24.06.2016
Every year, numerous – even fatal – accidents with window covering cords are reported to our safety authorities. The OECD, supported by the EU Commission, has kicked-off a campaign on the danger of these cords for young children.
Children risk injury and even strangulation if these window cords form a loop around their neck.
This global campaign on the danger of window covering cords is running under the hashtag #SaveWindowCoverings. The aim of the campaign is to provide safety recommendations to parents and caregivers. A concrete recommendation is for example to install window coverings that are either cordless or with inaccessible cords.
