Conference: Protecting Consumers’ Freedom in the Digital Era
Conference: Protecting Consumers’ Freedom in the Digital Era
BEUC NEWS - 24.7.2019
On 2 October, The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) is organising a conference to explore how to make competition enforcement in the digital era more effective and coherent so consumers can benefit from well-functioning markets.
Economies of scale, the presence of strong network effects and the amassing of personal data by online giants is negatively affecting competition in the digital sector and eroding consumers' freedom of choice and wellbeing.
Representatives from academia, business, civil society and the public sector will discuss the interplay between competition, data protection and consumer law and how these can contribute to fairer markets and societies.
Registrations for this event are closed.
Where: L42, Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 42, 1040 Brussels, Belgium
Programme and list of speakers.
The conference will be the climax of our project with professor Ariel Ezrachi from Oxford University about how consumer welfare in EU competition law can provide a useful prism for enforcers to deal with the challenge of increasingly digital markets. BEUC will publish its final report of this joint project on this date.
