BEUC joins civil society and challenger companies in urging Commission to take action against Google on Digital Markets Act

NEWS - 5 March 2025

BEUC, together with civil society groups and companies representing challenger search engines and browsers, have written to the European Commission to urge it to enforce the Digital Markets Act given Google’s suspected non-compliance.

Without full Commission enforcement of the law, consumers will not be able to enjoy all the benefits of the Digital Markets Act, which include creating more contestability in digital markets and giving consumers more and better choice.

We fear Google is evading effective compliance with key provisions of the Digital Markets Act and circumventing its obligations, including not showing all Android devices in use the required search and browser choice screens and maintaining barriers to switching search defaults on Android.
