EU legislators must close dangerous loophole in AI Act - Joint statement
Published on 07.09.2023
About this publication
BEUC, European Digital Rights (EDRi), Access Now, and 115 other civil society organisations call on EU lawmakers to close a dangerous loophole in the AI (artificial intelligence) Act, which risks undermining the entire legislation.
This loophole, the result of corporate lobbying, would allow developers of AI systems to decide themselves if they believe such a system is ‘high-risk’. The same company that would be subject to the law would therefore be given the power to unilaterally decide whether or not it should apply to them.
