How safe is biometric data and what impact does this have for AI regulation?
How safe is biometric data and what impact does this have for AI regulation?
About this event:
The use of biometric data like finger scans, facial or voice recognition is growing exponentially. Voices from all industries have been proclaiming for years that the ease and uniqueness of biometric data make it ideal to replace passwords. Consumers are being pushed towards using them for all kinds of applications, particularly on their phones.
But a new study by AK (the Austrian Chamber of Labour) and the Institute for Technology Assessment (ITA, from the Austrian Academy of Sciences) questions how safe the use of biometric data really is. The risk of identity theft still exists. The researchers say that the consequences of your fingerprints or facial features falling into the wrong hands can be far more severe than a lost password, as your body features cannot be changed.
ITA and AK will present their latest research on biometric data and BEUC will look into what this could mean for the EU’s pending legislation on artificial intelligence. Join us for this fundamentally important webinar!
