Drug Shortages – Profits Before Patients: A Screening of the ARTE Documentary & Debate on the EU’s Pharma Legislation
Drug Shortages – Profits Before Patients: A Screening of the ARTE Documentary & Debate on the EU’s Pharma Legislation
In 2022, the Franco-German channel ARTE broadcast the results of an international investigation by film company Découpages which looked at how pharmaceutical companies are putting profits before patients and benefitting from shortages of medicines in some areas to raise their prices.
Against a backdrop of increasing shortages for essential medicines, eye-wateringly high prices for other drugs, and imminent EU legislation to try to address the twin problem, BEUC and Mr Tiemo Wölken MEP are organising the screening of a shortened version of ‘Drug Shortages – Profits Before Patients’ in the European Parliament.
A panel debate will follow the documentary which will feature Rozenn Le Saint, who made the film. The debate will be a chance to discuss what the EU needs to get right to ensure better access to medicines without further harming states’ health budgets.
Breakfast will be served.
