#ConsumerDebates | Railway to (consumer) heaven? How the EU can promote rail
Taking the train is a daily routine for many consumers, although certainly not for all compared to the predominance of the car. And for longer trips, the plane remains the go-to choice for many. That is because there are still too many barriers to rail, from poor timetables and lack of investment to practical issues like comfort and ticket prices.
Improving rail services will require large-scale infrastructure investments. But as we argue in our new report, the EU should go further than this by proposing a Masterplan for Rail. This should include many practical quick-fixes and longer-term measures that will help make rail travel more attractive for all.
