New obesity figures yet another wake-up call for decision-makers to better protect consumers

A new report by the WHO European Regional office published today paints a stark picture of overweight and obesity rates across Europe and calls for healthier food environments. Alarmingly, not one single country in the region is on course to halt the rise in these conditions, a target they had committed to achieving by 2025. The European Consumer Organisation BEUC calls on decision makers to take urgent action.
EU court confirms consumer groups can take representative enforcement action when companies break GDPR

The European court (CJEU) has confirmed consumer groups can file injunctions if a company has violated the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as long as their national law allows it. BEUC welcomes this ruling which is a major development for its German member, vzbv (German Federation of Consumer Organisations), as it will unblock more than twenty GDPR-related cases they have filed which are awaiting this judgement.
Too many unsafe products once again found  in the EU market in 2021

Once again thousands of notifications about unsafe products were made to Safety Gate, the EU’s rapid alert system in 2021, a total of 2142 notifications to be exact. The notifications only represent the tip of the iceberg, as the precise number of dangerous products linked to a notification is unknown and only the most harmful risks are notified.
